We list 6 272 properties: from hostel beds and apartments to hotels in the centre and near Barajas airport. Below you will find prices by property type and by district, the best time to book, and a few sample hotels with rates so you can reach a good deal faster.
Prices in Madrid clearly follow the calendar. August is the cheapest, when locals leave the city and rates drop about a third below the average. September is the priciest, after the holidays, when trade fairs and conferences return and prices can run about a quarter higher. Across the week Sunday tends to be the best value, while midweek can be dearer. The best prices usually come about two and a half weeks ahead. The average stay is 4 nights, so booking the whole short break in advance often beats adding nights at the last minute.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Hostel bed | from approx. EUR 26 |
| Hostal or guesthouse room | from approx. EUR 80 |
| Apartment or studio | from approx. EUR 100 |
| 3-star hotel | from approx. EUR 55 |
| 4-star hotel | from approx. EUR 110 |
| 5-star hotel | from approx. EUR 192 |
Indicative rates for a double room outside the September peak. A cheap hostal in the centre can cost more than a 3-star hotel by the ring road, so it pays to weigh property type against location. Check exact prices and availability by selecting your dates in the search above.
| District | Average price per night |
|---|---|
| Barajas (by the airport, cheapest) | approx. EUR 91 |
| Retiro (by the park) | approx. EUR 105 |
| Centro (most popular) | approx. EUR 165 |
| Gran Vía (priciest) | approx. EUR 187 |
The cheapest beds are in Barajas by the airport, the dearest by Gran Vía in the heart of the city. Centro is the district guests pick most often, with Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor within walking distance.
| Property | Category | Price per night (from) |

Sample prices, from the lowest available rates; the real figure depends on your dates and room availability.
Most visitors come in spring and autumn, when the weather suits sightseeing, plus events such as the San Isidro festival in May and the Madrid Pride parade. For those dates and in September, the trade-fair season, book earlier, as the best central properties go first. In August, when the city empties out, the same standard costs noticeably less.
The cheapest hostel beds start from about EUR 26, hostal rooms from about EUR 80, and 3-star hotels from about EUR 55 per night. Higher 4- and 5-star standards usually run from about EUR 110 to 192. You will see the exact rate once you choose your dates.
The lowest prices fall in August, when locals leave the city and rates drop about a third below the average. September is the most expensive, in the trade-fair season, when prices can be about a quarter higher.
On average Sunday is the best value, while midweek tends to be dearer. If your dates are flexible, starting a stay on Sunday often gives a lower price for the same room.
The best prices usually appear about two and a half weeks before your stay. For September and big-event dates, book earlier, as the good central properties go first.
Barajas by the airport is the cheapest, averaging about EUR 91 a night. Gran Vía in the centre is the dearest, around EUR 187. The most popular district is Centro, with Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.
The most convenient are the Barajas and San Blas districts on the east side of the city, where most hotels offer a transfer. A good base for an early flight or a short layover.
